I've hunted just about every Big game animal in North america and i would have to say that the thrill of a grizzly hunt tops all, however I really enjoy Elk hunting because of the sounds they make. Nothing compares to hearing an Elk bugle on a crisp morning.

My two most exciting hunts ever. 1. I called in a world class eastern gobbler but did not even get a clear shot. He presented one time and I wasn't ready. He was so magnificent and so close I could not get my head together to make the shot. 2. The next spring I called the Grand Dad and his son and his grandson in to the same spot. They converged for a battle. I was calling for a friend and he had only one tag and I was just calling. He killed the son who had a 11 plus 1/2 inch beard. His spurs were 1 and 1/4. The Grand Dad cruised in after the shooting was over just like he had no idea what was going on. I could have nailed him that morning but did not have a tag. I cried that morning. Sad the son died and sad I might not get to see the Grand Dad again. I never saw him again after that. I hunted that old Grand Dad 3 seasons and never got him. I saw him several times, at a distance he looked like a prehistoric giant and walked like a man. Up close his druming would push your ear drums in, you could feel the pressure. When he gobbled at 15 yards I could feel my chest vibrating. I love hunting and I do a lot of it. That old bird gave me more thrills than any other animal I pursued.

Your area there reminds me of my new home. We moved to Salida, CO about three years ago. Your grassy area around the house looks a lot like the terrain around here. I have not hunted turkey since moving here but we have Merriams like you do.
