| Who has some good ideas? There are some high meadows out here that beg to be hunted. I have a few points accumulated for sheep, goat, and deer. I will hunt Sheep and goats for sure and should get tags in the next two or 3 years. I think the same rifle should be good for mule deer above timberline. I already have enough points for the mule deer hunt. All three of these animals can be spotted at a 1,000 yds and more, and stalking to under 500 yds is hard work. I have started to think about what rifle I will use for these hunts. This rifle needs to be light, as I may hike two to four hours straight up the side of a mountain to get to these places. I will be hunting at 10,000 to 13,000 foot elevations; this is very demanding hiking. I could be in the high country hiking for 3 or 4 days. The rifle needs to be extremely accurate because I may try a 400 yard shot if I know the range, have time, and have a rest. The rifle needs to be able to knock down mule deer, mountain goat, or big horn sheep at 400 yds. Who has some good ideas? |
