Default Deer Attractants, Do they really work?

I have been hunting for several years, but lately have moved from edge of field hunting to deep woods. (our lease is moving us around). Problem is I can't get close enough to the deer to get a decent shot. Last year I tried lots of different off the self attractants to get closer to the deer. Just basic stuff from B.P. and Wal-Mart like Deer Cocaine and C'mere Deer. My odds were about the same with all of them. I could see tracks and signs around where I put it out, but never saw the deer actually upon it when I was hunting. At the end of the season I found this new product "Munch Block" from a company I saw a commercial for on Outdoor Channel. It looks like a big candy bar for deer. I got a shot at a deer right in the middle of the lane I cut about 60 yards out, on top of the attractant I put out. (I put it out the night before). It was a perfect head down shot on one of the bigger bucks I knew were on our lease, and had been seeing rubs from. This year I am trying other products they make and see if it really makes a difference. Has anyone else used any of their products and can give me some pointers. Their stuff is online at www.wildgameadvantage.com I want to try their Monster Magnet attractant and see if this is really the new wonder product for getting deer, especially bucks, to get closer to my climbing stand. But I don't want to just waste more money if truly patience and experience are the key to thick brush and woods hunting. Let me know. Thanks

apples, toppers corn, ect are illegal.be carefull of some of the attractants that you put on the ground.some of them may be considered bait in your state.personally i think the buck lures are a bunch of hype designed to get a desperate hunters money.i will tell you what i do and it workes really well.when ever i take a doe and skin it, some tine the urine in the bladder is intact. do not rupture it.carefully remove it and place it in a plastic container. get you a syrenge...the large one that you can by at the grocery store to inject meat with seasonings.draw the urine in the bladder into the syrenge.then put it inside a balloon.place the balloon into the freezer and freeze it. it will stay indefinately. when you are ready to use it,take it out of the freezer and prick the bottom of it with a needle while it is still frozen.place it in an old sock and hang it from a limb.as it defrost it will drip through the sock unto the ground.depending on the temperature it could last a long time

i would say most of the reasons why you are not seeing many deer is they could be coming through during the night hours. i would suggest putting out a feeder , i my self use cracked corn. i have deer at my stand all hours of the day and night.

you could also get a game camera and see what time they are moving and where and then maybe you can get set up a little better for the big kill

Deer attractants are 20% effective and 80% hype, in my opinion. I've used most of them. I have not tried the new C'mere Deer and have heard good things about it, but I would be leary about even that. The block toppers, the Buck Gel, etc. is all very much the same in my opinion. Not even a feeder filled with corn (which is illegal in most areas) is going to draw in the big bucks during legal shooting hours.

The best thing that I have found to attract deer are mineral blocks. But they'll only work until the first frost of the year, and, again, your chances of finding a big buck over it in daylight hours are slim.

My suggestion would be what Buckshot72 suggested: Get a game camera. They're cheaper now than they've ever been; $100 will buy a low-end digital version. It will be money well-spent and the best thing you've ever purchased to help you pattern the deer and put yourself in the best position to be successful.

the deer kane works really well also. the way i found to use it is find an old rotten stump somewhere close to your stand area and put the kane on the stump let it rain on it a few times and watch the deer rip that stump apart.salt will also do the same thing.

i don't know what your state law says but in va you can use any kind of mineral or salt lick all year until 30 days prior to any kind of deer season then the block has to be remove. if not anyone hunting in that piece of woods is charged with hunting over bait

Default Deer Attracting

Hello I'm New here on this Forum Site
I found It just "Scouting Around"

The Problem I think you are haveing is you aren't getting close enough
to the Deer or there just not around.

Here is what I do and Use.

I don't use alot of the Deer Attracting product's that one can buy at the Stores
I suppose that some Block's of say Apple Blocks or Salt Blocks
Do the job But to me that is to slow. Sometimes simple is better.

If you want to Get Deer to your spot you have to Use the Deer against
The Deer.

Smell and Food > So What do I do?

Simple....

TAKE THE SMELL TO THE DEER>

In the woods the smell's of the city or towns are not around and smells are
very strong in the woods they can go on for a long way (Depending on the area)

You might have heard of this or even tried this But it always works
Just simply use " PEANUT BUTTER"

Don't just cut the bottom out of the jar and screw the lid to the tree
and place the jar back on the lid.

Take a jar of what ever Peanut Butter to the woods (I do this before the season starts and I go back and check about once a week) And use a stiff
stick from the ground and "SMEAR" the Peanut Butter around in a usefull
Area to where you need it. This will allow the smell to get out in a larger area IT WILL ALTER THE PATH OF ANY DEER
The Deer will SMELL
that Peanut Butter better than most any "BLOCK"
If the weather is hot or warm before Hunting Season starts GREAT And Place corn or what ever You can use to get them in your area
Just remember to Also go buy the laws. I have to hold off from hunting the area
UNTILL ALL OF THE BAIT IS GONE (10 days)
The Deer will continue to "Check" that area out.
You will know if the Deer or "Ants have been eatting the Peanut butter
The ants will conpletely Eat EVERY bit out of the cracks and noke's
and nothing will remine at all.
A Deer will leave some framents in the bark and the wet spot on the tree will always be "LARGER" from the licking. Also if one has Hogs in the area
and don't want them eatting the Peanut butter Place it on small tree's
And "UP" from the ground So the HOG can't get a Hoof Hold on the tree
and eat the Butter

I know it might sound a little strange useing "OLE SKIPPY" but....

I know that it works and have used it for a number of years and will continue
to Also Deer love the smell of Fresh Dirt I do use a mosquito repellent that smells like Dirt.

Thanks
JOE
